Our Story

As an inclusive committee-run club, we have a rich history dating back to 1926. Let us take you back in time to find out how Broomfields Hall came to be…

About Us

Humble Beginnings

The Solihull Branch of the Royal British Legion was initially formed in 1926 by the first president, Brigadier General Sir Walter Ludlow.

Back then, a wooden hut was our home, opposite the department store on Warwick Road. In 1968, we outgrew our ramshackle digs and moved into a purpose-built clubhouse at the top of Union Road.

To help make our club a more inclusive one, we actively campaigned for the Royal British Legion to accept female members, even proposing the establishment of a women’s section in 1953. Our campaign for inclusivity was rewarded when our new facilities were gifted to us by Mrs A Grenville.
